World of Outlaws Tackle Lakeside Speedway for FVP Outlaws at Lakeside June 7

Fans,
Fans,

Inside Line Promotions – KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Joey Saldana is in the thick of another World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship chase as the premier sprint car series prepares to make its annual visit to Lakeside Speedway for the FVP Outlaws at Lakeside on Saturday, June 7.

Saldana ranks third in the series with three feature wins and he has established quick time in qualifying a series-best 12 times. However, the history of the Kansas City region is what captures Saldana’s intrigue when he returns each year.

“The Weld family is from Kansas City and my dad did a lot of racing with them,” he said. “For me it’s pretty neat because of the Weld family.”

Saldana hasn’t picked up a World of Outlaws win at the big, fast track in the eight previous points races, but he has been impressed with the fan base.

“It seems like when we go it’s a standing-room only crowd,” he said. “It’s an area we need to have a World of Outlaws event.”

Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell, the two winningest World of Outlaws drivers in the history of the sport, have each won three times at Lakeside Speedway (counting the inaugural non-points race in 1991, which Swindell won).

Craig Dollansky was victorious last season with championship standings leader Daryn Pittman winning in 2003 and Mark Kinser earning his lone win in 2002.
