MOORESVILLE, N.C. (JUNE 6, 2016) – Larson Marks Racing and Shane Stewart rebounded Sunday night at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich. for a runner-up finish after an 18th-place finish Friday night at Fremont Speedway and Saturday’s event at I-96 Speedway was postponed to Sunday following heavy rainfall.
Stewart started off the night earning his second fast time of the season Friday night at Fremont Speedway. After winning his heat race and transferring into the dash, the Bixby, Okla. native earned the fourth starting position for the feature event. Unfortunately, Stewart spun on lap one and was sent to the work area. The Larson Marks team made speedy repairs and got the No. 2 back out on the track for the restart. Stewart was up to 13th by the halfway point, but on the ensuing restart slowed and stopped on the bottom of Turns 1 and 2. After restarting in the rear of the field, Stewart was able to climb back up to an 18th-place finish.
Saturday’s show at I-96 Speedway was postponed to Sunday after heavy rainfall once hot laps were complete. On Sunday, the team earned the third quickest time of the night in qualifying and won their heat race from the pole. After starting fourth in the dash, the throttle pedal broke on lap two, forcing the team to settle for sixth place. With 25 laps remaining, Stewart had advanced to second place and was gaining on the leader when the red flag was displayed for two tangled cars. As soon as the cars started to push off for the restart, rain came and the race was called official on lap 17, with Stewart scored in the runner-up spot.
“It was great to rebound on Sunday after our performance at Fremont on Friday,” said Stewart. “I thought I might have had something for the leader, but I’ll take a second-place finish. I’ve got to thank the Larson Marks guys for all their hard work this weekend.”
