Stewart Rebounds to Score Top Five at Eldora
MOORESVILLE, N.C (MAY 10, 2016) – This past weekend, the Larson Marks Racing team returned to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, the site of some of their biggest career wins. Shane Stewart finished 19th on Friday night, but make a late-race pass on Saturday night to earn another top-five finish.
Stewart qualified seventh in the second flight of qualifying on Friday night and finished fourth in his heat race. Larson Marks Racing started 14th on the grid for the feature event, but didn’t get a good start when the green flag dropped and slipped back to 20th. After falling back to 21st, Stewart gained two spots in the closing circuits of the 30-lap race to finish 19th.
The following night, Stewart timed in seventh-quickest in the first flight of qualifying. After starting fourth in his heat race, the Bixby, Okla. native gained two positions to finish second and earn a spot in the all-important dash. Stewart finished sixth in the dash and started the main event on the outside of row three. In the 30-lap feature Stewart advanced one position to finish fifth.
In 30 races so far this season, the LMR team has earned four wins, 17 top-five finishes and 26 top 10s. Stewart currently sits third in the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series championship point standings, 101 points out of the lead.
“Friday night was a tough one for us,” said Stewart. “We normally don’t finish outside of the top 10 unless something goes wrong. My Larson Marks Racing guys got to work and made the right adjustments, and we were back to our usual form on Saturday. The season has been pretty solid for us so far, so we want to keep that momentum going. Hopefully we can qualify a little better and add a few more notches to the win column.”
