Sides Slowed by Weather and Tricky Track Conditions during National Open

Fans,
Fans,

Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2015) – The 53rd annual National Open wasn’t a great experience for Jason Sides.

The three-day World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Williams Grove Speedway was consolidated into a one-day race on Sunday at the half-mile oval thanks to rainy weather all weekend.

“They could have had a really nice track,” he said. “From the time we got there at 1 p.m. on Sunday they were rolling and packing the track. It was already overcast. They continued to beat down on it. They just made it concrete.”

Sides struggled with the track conditions as he qualified 18th quickest and then finished where he started – sixth – in a heat race. That relegated him to the C Main.

“They went back and watered the track for the heat races and rolled it back in,” he said. “I watched all the heat races except the one before mine and I didn’t see any passing. By the time the C Main came our times were faster than during qualifying. Usually in qualifying you’re the fastest of the night.”

Sides ended fifth in the C Main to miss a transfer, which ended the long weekend early.

He will return to action this Saturday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., with the World of Outlaws.

Sides has five top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws at the 5/8-mile track. He placed seventh in 2013, ninth in 2011, seventh in 2010, eighth in 2009 and 10th in 2007.
