Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (March 15, 2015) – Jason Sides is happy the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races at Thunderbowl Raceway are behind him.
Sides salvaged a pair of top 20s last weekend with the premier sprint car series at the tricky track.
“We got out of there without tearing anything up,” he said. “Me and Thunderbowl Raceway don’t really get along. It’s got long straightaways with tight corners and it’s rough. It’s not my style of racing.”
Sides qualified 28th and 33rd, respectively, before missing a feature lock-in position through both a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown each night. That forced him to use a provisional both nights to tag the back of the field for the main event.
“They key was staying out of the holes on Friday,” he said. “There were a couple of big crashes that took out multiple cars. We avoided the holes and the wrecks.”
Sides maneuvered from 25th to a 12th-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
He also moved forward during the main event on Saturday, when he rallied from 25th to 18th.
“They reworked the track before the feature because it started laying a little rubber,” he said. “We tightened everything up. Then they watered the track and reworked it so we loosened the car up. We were pretty good for about five laps and then the track rubbered up. We were in between the right and wrong setups so we got what we could.”
Sides, who ranks ninth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, will return to competition next Saturday and Sunday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., for the FVP Western Spring Shootout with the World of Outlaws.
