ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 5, 2015) – Readers of SPEED SPORT Magazine selected Eldora Speedway as their favorite track earlier this year for the fourth consecutive year.
Joey Saldana agrees with the readers who voted for Eldora because it is his favorite track too. The World of Outlaws will be competing at the famed oval Friday and Saturday, May 8-9.
The half-mile track was built in 1954 by the late Earl Baltes and purchased by three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart 50 years later.
Saldana has over 150 starts, and 22 main event wins, including two Kings Royal victories, at this track.
“I grew up watching my dad race at this track,” said Saldana. “Each year driving into this track that just suddenly appears out of the corn fields, gives me goose bumps.
“This is a tough track with wall-to-wall tough competition. You have to appreciate what it is–the history here-and appreciate the competition. You have to be patient.”
Saldana comes off of two consecutive podium finishes, one at Pevely, Mo. on Saturday and the other at Haubstadt, Ind. Sunday. He also advanced to fourth in World of Outlaws point standings.
“Our team is working really well together and if we can maintain consistency, then the wins will come.
“Last year at this event, we had a runner-up finish on Friday night and we were among the top four qualifiers both nights.
“This is also a track where we traditionally have a lot of family and friends come out, which makes racing at Eldora even more special.”
Saldana will also debut a new souvenir trailer along with his 2015 merchandise line.
