A Day in the Life with Larson Marks Racing

The team gets ready to embark on their first year with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series

The final countdown to DIRTcar Nationals and the start of the 2015 season is underway at World of Outlaws team shops throughout the country. At Larson Marks Racing’s Mooresville, N.C. facility, crew members Steve Suchy, Scotty Martin and Andrew Seamans are working with driver Shane Stewart to put the finishing touches on the team’s cars as they prepare for their first ever full season with the series.

The World of Outlaws spent the day with Larson Marks on Monday as the team worked to get on the road to Volusia.

The Day

We arrived for our day with the team shortly before 8:30 a.m.

8:26 a.m. – Team driver Shane Stewart and crew chief Steve Suchy are at the shop already. Suchy is at work in his office and Stewart is in the shop fitting his seats into the team’s fleet of 2015 cars.

8:33 a.m. – Mechanic Scotty Martin arrives

8:40 a.m. – Martin helps Stewart install his seats

8:54 a.m. – Erin Noel and Ross Wece with the World of Outlaws interview Stewart as he leads them on a tour of the team’s new shop. Check out the finished videos here and here

9:17 a.m. – Martin is working on master cylinders. 

9:25 a.m. – Andrew Seamans is piecing together the team’s wheels.

10:20 a.m. – Stewart and Martin are working to get Stewart’s knee guard in place.

10:45 a.m. – Suchy is working on the headers and mufflers while machining pieces when necessary. “It’s header day, today,” Suchy says.

10:54 a.m. -Stewart working on getting his belts adjusted and in place – includes a wardrobe change into his firesuit so the belts can be calibrated for raceday

11:30 a.m. – Seamans finishes initial work on the wheels – begins applying silicone to the center section of the wheels where two pieces fit together.

12:27 p.m. – Suchy welding headers/mufflers on his Lincoln Welder.

12:40 p.m. – Suchy stays behind as Stewart, Martin and Seamans head to lunch in Mooresville.

1:33 p.m. – Before returning to the Larson Marks shop, the crew makes parts stops at two locations in Mooresville.

2:00 p.m. – Martin receives the pieces he needs during the parts run to finish up the master cylinders.

2:33 p.m. – Martin, Suchy and Stewart figure out how to fit the master cylinder and fuel lines around the recently installed seat and knee guard.

3:07 p.m. – Seamans works to put the beadlock on all of the wheels he assembled earlier.

3:37 p.m. – Seamans finishes with the wheels and heads to the powder coater to pick up pieces.

3:52 p.m. – Stewart works to fit caps on the wings to get them ready to be sealed with silicone and prepared for decals.

4:14 p.m. – Seamans gets to the powder coater and picks up the powder coated parts.

4:44 p.m. – Seamans returns from the powder coater with the team’s parts.

5:29 p.m. – Stewart is sealing up the wing with silicone – Martin and Seamans come over to help.

7:06 p.m. – Seamans inflates tires on the new wheels.

7:36 p.m. – After a long day, the team heads home.
