World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series Returns to Clay County Fair Speedway on September 16

SPENCER, Iowa — Sept. 7, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to Clay County Fair Speedway as part of the 2016 Clay County Fair on Friday, September 16 for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout Presented by Bob’s Bike Shop, Vanderhaag’s Inc., H&N Chevrolet and Gillund Enterprises. The National Sprint League will also be in action with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Last season, Mother Nature was victorious at Clay County Fair Speedway, as rained forced the cancellation of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event. In 2014, third-generation driver Kraig Kinser picked up his first win at the historic track located at the Clay County Fairgrounds. The Indiana native took the lead from Brad Sweet on lap-13 and led the remainder of the 30-lap main event.
Donny Schatz, the seven-time and defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion leads all drivers with four wins at Clay County Fair Speedway in his career. Sweet, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing, earned his first-career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win at the track in June of 2012.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series raced for the first time at Clay County Fair Speedway in 2007. Six drivers have been victorious in the nine events contested by the series at the three-eighths-mile.
Schatz will lead the series into the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout, on the strength of 21 A-Feature wins. The veteran driver leads the series in wins, top-five finishes and top-10 finishes as he chases his eighth championship. David Gravel is currently second in points and has won a career-high nine races this season. Sweet is currently third in points, just one marker behind Gravel. Sweet has seven wins in 2016, as does his teammate Daryn Pittman, who sits fourth in points.
Joey Saldana rounds out the top-five in points and has won four times thus far in 2016. Shane Stewart rides sixth in the standings on the strength of five A-Feature wins. Jason Johnson, who scored the biggest win of his career last month, claiming the $150,000 Knoxville Nationals, is seventh in points. Logan Schuchart, who earned his first-career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win in July at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin is eighth, with Jason Sides ninth and Paul McMahan 10th. Jacob Allen, son of Hall of Famer Bobby Allen, is back on the Outlaws tour for the third consecutive year.
Greg Wilson from Ohio is the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season, while teenager Clyde Knipp from Missouri is also battling for rookie honors.
Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, is the current point leader with the National Sprint League, as he chases his second straight title with the organization. Craig Dollansky, who is a past winner at Clay County Fair Speedway with the Outlaws, is second in points, followed by Brian Brown in third, Ian Madsen in fourth and Brooke Tatnell in fifth.
