National Open Presents Challenge for CJB

Fans,
Fans,

TELFORD, PA. – October 8, 2014 – Williams Grove Speedway in central Pennsylvania is one of the toughest venues in the world when it comes to sprint car racing. From demands on equipment to the sheer caliber of competition, the legendary half-mile demands the best from every competitor.

“National Open is a big race and tough race,” said Paul McMahan, driver of the #51 Bairs Tree Service/Nyce Crete & Landis Block & Concrete/All Star Performance sprinter.

Heading into the final World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Williams Grove, McMahan held an average finish of 9.7 across four events.

Mother Nature won the opening night of the weekend as saturated grounds forced track and series officials to cancel the evenings event. For night number two, the big money was on the line.

“We didn’t time in very well,” explained McMahan. “You have to do that or you get behind the eight ball right off the bat. We started on the pole of the heat race and I tried something that didn’t work and we finished second. From there, we just played catch up for the night. We rolled off 18th. Got up to 12th when a red (flag) came out. Barry and the crew made some adjustments but we got too tight after that. We held on for 12th. I won’t lie; it was a bit of a disappointment for us. But we will continue on.”

The series continues on larger tracks as the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ stays in the Northeast with its annual stop at Rolling Wheels Raceway near Elbridge, N.Y. The event is a part of NAPA Auto Parts SuperDIRT Week XLIII.

“Rolling Wheels is a big, fast track,” said McMahan of the 5/8th’s mile oval. “It’ll be fun to be back there and to continue to wind down the season. We’re looking to make gains and be competitive as we inch closer to the World Finals at Charlotte..”
