MIDWEST ROUND UP: Pair of Top-5’s Open July for CJB Motorsports

Fans,
Fans,

TELFORD, PA. – July 9, 2014 -In the late 1800’s, Outlaws roamed across the plains.

Dirty and unyielding, they moved from town to town in search of their next bag of cash. Sometimes they were successful; sometimes they weren’t.

Over 200 years later, the same image of the traveling desperados lives on in the form of race car drivers. Rather than being mounted on horseback, they strap in to fire breathing winged chariots built for the sole purpose of being the first one to grab that elusive bag of cash.

With the month of July beginning in earnest, modern day Outlaw Paul McMahan and his CJB Motorsports team looked to continue their journey as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series invaded Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, S.D.

“The Midwest has treated us very well so far this year,” said McMahan, who has 22 Outlaw victories in his career. “We had a very strong car at Huset’s. We timed in well, raced well throughout the heat and dash but slapped the wall a few times in the feature. I was playing catch up after that. To finish fifth was a great comeback before we headed south.”

The 51 Bairs Tree Service/Nyce Crete & Landis Block & Concrete/All Star Performance sprinter saw action once again as the fourth of July weekend featured a showdown in the most famous wild west town of all, Dodge City, Kansas.

“Dodge City always presents a challenge because of the heat and wind,” commented McMahan. “The track crew reworked the surface before the dash and it was still a little bit greasy down low for the feature. On the opening lap, Sammy (Swindell) and I were in the front row. He went high going into (turn) one and I went low. I caught some of the grease and we made contact. It was a very unfortunate racing deal and we went on to finish second to open the weekend. The next night was a bit more difficult as the track was tough to pass on. We started 8th, fell back a spot but gained it back.”

From Dodge City, the traveling circus makes its way east as the aptly named “Month of Money,” begins with the annual Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio.

“It may not be one of the highest paying races in the country but it’s defiantly in the top-5 in terms of prestigious races that we run,” mentioned the Nashville, Tenn. resident. “Brad was a hero if mine growing up and he’s become a great friend over the years. If you go up and down and ask the drivers, they will all tell you it’s a marquee race to win.”

Speaking of big events, McMahan and the CJB crew will continue racing in Ohio as they tackle the high banks of Eldora Speedway near Rossburg for the 31st annual Kings Royal weekend on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12.

“We feel really good about Eldora,” said McMahan. “We think we have a great setup and we’ve had great speed there. Pocketing the $50,000 winners check and being able to be crowned in Victory Lane would certainly be a high light.”
