FATHEADZ EYEWEAR BACKS MOTTER MOTORSPORTS TEAM FOR 2013 WORLD OF OUTLAWS SERIES

Fans,
Fans,

PENGILLY, Minn. (Feb. 9, 2013)  — Dan Motter announced today that Fatheadz eyewear will join the 2013 sponsorship line-up on his 71M Motter Motorsports sprint car to be driven by Joey Saldana in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Series beginning in February.

“We are proud to welcome and promote the unique line of Fatheadz eyewear, an eyewear firm that caters to people with wide heads,” said Motter.

“Our goal is to heighten brand awareness of a distinctive product that targets those folks who don’t find ‘off the shelf’ eyewear comfortable.  Fatheadz owner and developer Rico Elmore has become an enthusiastic supporter of our team and we look forward to contributing to increased sales of this specialized brand.”

“My business is in Brownsburg, Ind.,” said Elmore, “and I have come to know and admire ‘The Brownsburg Bullet’ Joey Saldana.  I met Dan Motter at a motorsports show last year and knew Fatheadz had the opportunity to be involved with a professional team and driver who will have the capability of adding star power to our brand.

“This is our first venture in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Series, but with 91 races in 57 cities encompassing 25 states coast to coast, along with three Canadian provinces, it offers us a great opportunity to spread the word about our Fatheadz products.  We can reach an audience of millions.”

The idea for Fatheadz eyewear was born when Rico Elmore was on his honeymoon in Las Vegas.  Discovering that he had left his sunglasses at home in Indiana, the 6-foot, 3-inch, 300 pound Elmore walked into a Las Vegas shop and after trying to squeeze nearly 50 pair onto his head, he walked out of the store with a concept for a new business.

“I can’t be the only one in the world with a fat head,” said Elmore, and decided to create a company called Fatheadz where he would make glasses for people with fat heads.

Elmore sold his first www.fatheadz.com online order in November 2007.  He called the customer to thank him and discovered the initial order was shipping to Lincoln Kennedy, a pro football player who played for the Oakland Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons.  Elmore and Kennedy remain friends to this day.

Some of the most notable customers of the Fatheadz product are Darrell the Gambler of A&E’s “Storage Wars,” bodyguard Big Black and “American Pickers” Frank Fritz.  Women are buying the product, too, which is available at Wal-Mart and other retail locations.

Motter raced sprint cars as an owner/driver/mechanic from 1973 to 1981 with the Midwest Sprint Association before turning to team ownership in 1990.   His high-profile teams have included some of the best drivers in sprint car competition, namely Kenny Jacobs, Stevie Smith, and Doug Wolfgang.  Motter chose to retire from racing at the end of the 1997 season and concentrate on his business.  He is returning to the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Series after a 15-year hiatus.

Saldana tallied his eighth top-five finish, placing fourth in 2012 WOO Sprint Car point standings.  He added five victories to his resume, boosting his total to an impressive 83 career wins, placing him seventh in all-time victories for the category.

Motter also owns Motter Equipment, a global supplier of mining and construction equipment and component parts for surface mining and construction industries with corporate offices near Hibbing, Minn.  For more information, please visit www.motterequipment.com.  Follow the team on twitter @motterms.
