Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Now Twin 30-lap Races

alt

Sarver, PA

For the first time in history, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will run two A-main events on the same day at the same track, each for $15,000 to win. Lernerville Speedway is giving its fans two 30-lap races for the price of one on July 21 at this year’s Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.

The huge single-day event on the World of Outlaws circuit will begin with a 30-lap, $15,000-to-win, full points-paying feature race. Moments after the checkered flag waves, an inversion of at least lead lap cars will be set for a non-points 30-lap slugfest for another $15,000.

With no points at stake, imagine the chances drivers will take for a second shot at $15,000? It’ll be downright scary on that 60th lap of A-main racing.

“The Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup has long been one of the World of Outlaws and Sprint Car racing’s premier events,” said Lernerville General Manager Gary Risch Jr. “Making it twin features this year will no doubt turn it into one of the most exciting single nights of racing in Lernerville’s 40-year history.”

Lernerville Speedway, northeast of Pittsburgh, has been a favorite destination on the World of Outlaws circuit for 30 years. Only once in all those years has a weekly Lernerville competitor topped the Outlaws, but it made for the track’s most memorable night. Ed Lynch Jr. held off Steve Kinser and all of Sprint Car racing’s royalty to capture the 2002 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, the biggest victory of his career.

Now in its 18th year, the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup — Lernerville’s entry in the “Month of Money” — is one of Sprint Car racing’s crown jewel events. Steve Kinser is the current series points leader and the defending Silver Cup champion.

While no driver has won a World of Outlaws A-main after starting dead last, two-time Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup champion Donny Schatz did accomplish an improbable feat this year on the first night of the season-opening Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH. After his car sustained damage on an opening-lap wreck, Schatz made repairs, restarted 23rd and worked his way through the field for the victory.

Can Schatz, or any of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series superstars, come from deep in the field to win $15,000? Or will one of Lernerville’s weekly competitors defend their home turf for a monumental victory? Or will it be one of the Pennsylvania Posse invaders who steals the money? The only way to find out is to be there in person on Tuesday, July 21. The crowd is always big, make sure to reserve your seats in advance by calling 724-353-1511 or by ordering online at www.Lernerville.com.
