Broken Arrow Native Brady Bacon challenges the World of Outlaws in Oklahoma on Friday

SALINA, Okla. — April 28, 2016 — Brad Bacon, who hails from Broken Arrow, Okla., will take on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in his home state this week at Salina Highbanks Speedway. The event on Friday, April 29 will mark the series only visit of the season to Oklahoma.

Bacon, who is the 2014 USAC National Sprint Car Series champion, is currently fourth in points with that series and won a race in Indiana last weekend. He has competed with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series a handful of times this season including during their West Coast Swing. Bacon finished ninth with the Outlaws at Thunderbowl Raceway in California in March.

On Tuesday, April 28, Bacon finished sixth with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The second-generation driver won the dash to start on the pole of the 40-lap main event and ran in the top-three for several laps, before falling back a few spots.

“This is a good little stretch of wing races coming up,” said Bacon. “Hopefully, our race at Farmington (St. Francois County Speedway) a couple weeks ago got some of our issues out of the way. The car should be pretty good, and we’re going to some tracks that I’ve had some success at.”

After opening his season by competing in the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Bacon traveled Down Under to Australia, where he picked up a win in a midget. He then returned to the United States and raced in Florida during the annual Speedweeks festivities, before heading to the West Coast.

Bacon is scheduled to contest the full USAC National Sprint Car Series schedule this season. He will also compete in a number of winged sprint car races, including several with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Bacon will also race a midget when his schedule allows. The race at Salina Highbanks Speedway this Friday is tentatively the only one (other than the Chili Bowl) in his home state that is currently on Bacon’s 2016 schedule.

Other Oklahoma natives that will compete at Salina Highbanks Speedway include 2013 World of Outlaws champion Daryn Pittman, who hails from Owasso and drives for Kasey Kahne Racing. Pittman has won three races thus far in 2016 and is currently third in points.

Also in action will be Shane Stewart from Bixby, who won at Salina Highbanks Speedway with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last year. Stewart drives for a team co-owned by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson. Stewart, who is currently second in points, has been one of the most consistent drivers on the tour this season, as he has the second-most top-10 finishes on the circuit.

Leading the series into Salina Highbanks Speedway will be Brad Sweet, who is chasing his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series title. Other contenders include seven-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Paul McMahan, Jason Johnson, Jason Sides, David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, Jacob Allen and rookie Greg Wilson.
