World of Outlaws Makes First trip of 2018 to River Cities Speedway on June 15

GRAND FORKS, ND — June 7, 2018 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will hit the track at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, June 15 for the 1st Leg of the Gerdau Recycling Northern Tour. The event will mark the 12th straight year the Series has visited the high-banked, three-tenths-mile bullring. Also in action will be the NLRA Late Model Series.

In 2017, David Gravel and Donny Schatz split wins at River Cities Speedway. Gravel scored his first win at the track in June, while Schatz was victorious in August. The win for Gravel was one of two in North Dakota during the 2017 season as he also visited victory lane at Nodak Speedway in Minot.

The victory for Schatz was his ninth with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at River Cities Speedway, which leads all drivers. That same night he also won the companion NLRA race. Daryn Pittman, the 2013 Series Champion, is also a past winner at River Cities Speedway as is third-generation driver Kraig Kinser.

Schatz leads the Series into River Cities Speedway this season on the strength of nine wins, with Brad Sweet, who has two victories thus far in 2018, second in points, 98 markers behind. David Gravel, who has three wins, is third in the standings. Shane Stewart rides fourth, with fellow Oklahoma native Daryn Pittman in fifth.

Sheldon Haudenschild, who recently scored his fourth win of the season is sixth in the standings, with Jason Johnson seventh, Logan Schuchart eighth, Ian Madsen ninth and Brent Marks 10th.

Greg Wilson returns to River Cities Speedway for the third straight season and looks to improve on his pair of top-10 finishes at the track. Fellow veteran driver Jason Sides will also be in action.

Jacob Allen and Clyde Knipp are both back on the road again in 2018. Allen led his first-ever laps in a Feature event last year with World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at River Cities Speedway, and recently matched his best-career finish with a second-place effort in Illinois. Knipp qualified for his first main event at Grand Forks last year.

Ian Madsen is the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season. The Australian has raced in the past at River Cities Speedway with the Outlaws.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series first competed at River Cities Speedway in 2007, with Joey Saldana picking up the win in the inaugural event. A total of eight drivers have been victorious at the track with the Series over the last 11 years.
