ON THIS DAY: McCreadie, Richards & Erb Take Outlaw Wins

A trio of May 16 events in 2007, 2008 and 2014 were owned by longtime World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series sensations. From Dennis Erb Jr’s hot streak which led him to a dominant triumph at Indiana’s Brownstown Speedway, to Josh Richard’s thrilling denial of Chub Frank at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park, to Tim McCreadie’s midway charge which guided him to a 201 Speedway victory, this date had it all.

Dennis Erb Jr. led wire-to-wire at Brownstown Speedway for his second World of Outlaws win on May 16, 2007.

May 16, 2007 – Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.)

In a flag-to-flag route, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill. was the dominating winner of the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series debut at Indiana’s Brownstown Speedway in 2007. Earning the pole position via his heat race win, Erb got the jump at the start of the 50-lapper and never looked back as he ran off with his second career Outlaws win. Sparking a hot streak, Erb’s Brownstown dominance came just four days after he notched his first career win in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. His $10,000 score led the way for top five finishers Earl Pearson Jr., Don O’Neal, Shannon Babb and Billy Moyer.

May 16, 2008 – Attica Raceway Park (Attica, Ohio)

One of Josh Richard’s most thrilling conquests came in the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series debut at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park in 2008. Sitting on the pole position, “Kid Rocket”of Shinnston, W.V. relinquished the lead to Chub Frank on the opening circuit and was forced to follow “Old Faithful,” Frank’s repaired 2006 Rocket Chassis, for the next 43 laps. However, Richards displayed his maturing patience as he waited for the right moment to strike, and on lap 44 that opportunity came with an exciting high-side pass. The then 20-year old rising sensation commanded the closing six laps for his eight career World of Outlaws win over Frank, Darrell Lanigan, Shannon Babb and Shane Clanton.

In victory lane, the enthused Richards exclaimed “That was one of the most fun races I’ve ever run!”

May 16, 2014 – 201 Speedway (Sitka, Ky.)

Fans at 201 Speedway were presented an intense three-way war at the halfway mark of this 2014 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series debut at the Sitka, Kentucky track. Rookie of the Year contender Chase Junghans of Manhattan, Kans. shot to the early lead and paced the opening 25 circuits before Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. and Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. entered the fray. McCreadie, who was running third moments prior, found the sweet spot as he rocketed by Lanigan and Junghans in back-to-back laps to overtake the top spot.

T-Mac handled the final half of the 50-lapper to earn his 26th of 31 career World of Outlaws victories. Lanigan followed McCreadie to the stripe with Rod Conley claiming third-from-2oth in a masterful charge.
