2009 Season Review: Began the 2009 season with the World of Outlaws and ran the first 16 races of the season and wound up competing a total of 32 times with the series, winning at Eldora Speedway on the Knight Before the Kings Royal as well as at his home track of Knoxville Raceway. He racked up 22 Top-10 finishes with nine of those being Top-Fives.

Competing across the country with a number of different series, McCarl was victorious a total of 19 times in 2009. He won with four different series and was victorious at 10 different tracks. He also had the chance to race against his son Austin a number of times this season at the famed Knoxville Raceway and helped his car owner Tod Quring claim the 2009 Knoxville Owners title.
