2006 WoO Season Review: The learning process on the tough tour continued for Blankenship, who spent much of the campaign in a battle for 11th in the points standings with Eddie Carrier Jr., Eric Jacobsen and Garrett Durrett. His half-dozen top-10 finishes were the best among that group – all of them coming in succession during an especially strong stretch in late spring/early summer.

Blankenship started his six-race top-10 streak on May 31 at Grand Forks, N.Dak., finishing sixth. He followed that with top-10s at Deer Creek, Minn.; Western Kentucky Speedway; East Alabama Motor Speedway; and New York’s Stateline Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Not surprisingly, Blankenship’s best WoO LMS performance of 2006 came at Stateline, a track in Busti, N.Y., that for reasons he can’t explain has become like a second home to him. In 2005 Blankenship captured what remains his only WoO LMS feature win at Stateline, and in ’06 he nearly duplicated that feat. Blankenship was able to slide in front of leader Dick Barton midway through the 50-lap race, but lapped traffic dulled his momentum and allowed Barton, a local legend, to stay in the top spot and race to victory. Blankenship had to settle for second place – his best finish of the season.

Blankenship ended the season ranked 12th in the point standings.

Blankenship even loaned Bloomquist his backup car to qualify in an event at Milan, Tenn., after Bloomquist’s tow rig caught fire en route to the track… Posted one top-five and five top-10 finishes in ’04. Placed 13th in the point standings and second to Tim McCreadie in the Rookie of the Year battle… Won first career WoO LMS feature on July 2, 2005, at New York’s Stateline Speedway – one day before turning 24… Registered four top-five and nine top-10 runs on way to career-high 11th-place finish in 2005 standings…

Other Racing History: A relative newcomer to dirt Late Model racing, Blankenship began his career in 2003… While racing locally, scored first career win in ’03 and finished among top 10 in more than 75 percent of his starts, with a third of those runs in the top five… Won a feature in June 2004 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn… Captured the Bobby Oney Memorial in June 2006 at Ohio’s K-C Raceway…
