History
The history of dirt Late Model racing -- and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series -- can be traced back to the origins of the automobile and competitive auto racing itself.

Stock car racing on dirt tracks gained popularity more than a half-century ago and gradually evolved into more than just weekend warriors battling it out in machines taken right off the highway or out of the junkyard. As more and more technology met the track in the 1960s, a unique, purpose-built 'dirt Late Model' car began to develop.

The dirt Late Model division grew exponentially throughout the '70s and '80s, expanding to tracks from coast-to-coast. Bigger-money events helped build a class filled with star drivers racing for a living -- and led to the creation of both regional and national series.

Today the dirt Late Model division stands as arguably the most popular and widespread form of dirt-track competition in North America -- a true motorsports industry unto itself, with manufacturers cranking out chassis, engines and parts for thousands of racers, and drivers competing for huge purses in front of millions of fans. It remains the only dirt-track division that has run a race paying $1 million to win -- a milestone that occurred in 2001 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Standing out on the dirt Late Model landscape is the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO LMS), which has grown to become the division's premier national tour. A sister to the long-running World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the WoO LMS had an initial two-year run (1988-1989) under the direction of late WoO Sprint Car Series founder Ted Johnson before returning bigger and better in 2004 under the auspices of the World Racing Group (then called Boundless Motor Sports/DIRT MotorSports). By using the brand name that had become synonymous with the country's greatest short dirt-track Sprint Car racing and signing 12 superstar drivers to follow the tour's inaugural schedule, the World Racing Group immediately put the WoO LMS on the map.

The WoO LMS has continued to grow since its rebirth in 2004, bringing thrilling dirt Late Model racing among the division's biggest names to fans in more than 25 states and three Canadian provinces. Down-to-the-wire battles for the richest points championship in dirt Late Model racing have become regular occurrences for the WoO LMS, which in 2010 will visit more than 40 different tracks.
